Why Regulated Internet Gaming Is Growing At Home
Bedtime used to be the end of the night.
For plenty of dads, the hour or two after the kids go down is the only free time in the day, and it’s also when the stress of work and family finally catches up. How you spend it is key to avoiding burnout, and a growing slice of it now goes to a phone instead of a trip to the sports bar.
Regulated online casino gaming is part of this picture. In states that allow it, adults can unwind with slots or blackjack from the couch, with age checks and spending tools baked into the account.
Betway is a good example of how varied these platforms have become. Its online casino offers slots and table games plus a live casino with real dealers, and the account also covers sports betting, with virtual sports and esports markets on top. The Betway app for Android and iOS gathers all of it in one place, which suits a dad who has 20 minutes rather than a free Saturday.
Back in the States, regulators give the clearest read on how many adults unwind this way. Michigan and Pennsylvania publish monthly online casino numbers, as does New Jersey.
Michigan Posts Sustained Momentum
Michigan’s online casinos took in $303 million in gross receipts in August, based on the Michigan Gaming Control Board’s September 18 report.
Adjusted gross receipts, the number after deductions such as promotional credits, came to $290.8 million. That’s up 17.6% on August 2025.
State-reported data is useful because it isn’t marketing. A regulator’s monthly report lists flat months and falling categories as well as the good news, and it’s tied to real tax payments, with Michigan’s iGaming operators handing over $61.2 million in taxes and fees to the state for August alone.
Pennsylvania’s Mix of Game Preferences
Pennsylvania’s online casinos generated $245.7 million in August, a 6.25% increase on the $231.2 million recorded a year earlier, per the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
Slots did nearly all the work. Online slot revenue came in at $195.2 million, up 8.84%. Table games slipped 2.57% to $48.1 million, and poker dipped 5.15% to $2.4 million.
But the growth isn’t spread evenly across formats.
Each format suits a different kind of evening, though, and picking one that fits your headspace is part of using it well. Slots are quick and easy to stop after 10 minutes, which works for a dad checking in between loads of laundry. Blackjack and roulette ask for more attention per hand. Live dealer tables, like the ones in Betway’s live casino, add a human face to a solo night in. Poker pits you against other people, and a session can stretch well past the point you’d planned to call it a night.
New Jersey Offers Mature Market Context
New Jersey, live since November 2013, is the oldest of the three markets. Its August internet gaming win was $259.3 million, up 4.4% year over year, based on Division of Gaming Enforcement data covered by ROI-NJ.
Through eight months, internet gaming win came to $2.13 billion, a 13.2% jump on the $1.88 billion posted over the same stretch of 2025. August was also the 11th straight month above $250 million.
Atlantic City’s nine casino hotels went backwards, with in-person casino win down 5.5% to $294.9 million. Casino Control Commission chair James Plousis pointed out that last year, online win “eclipsed in-person casino win in every month of the shoulder season,” and fall is now here.
Put the three side by side and the pattern is kind of predictable. Michigan, the youngest market after its January 2021 launch, posted the fastest annual growth in August. New Jersey’s monthly growth has slowed after almost 13 years, although a 13.2% year-to-date gain is hardly a market out of puff.
Where Leisure Time Fits
Revenue charts don’t mean a lot to a dad whose free time comes in 40-minute scraps.
Still, this is part of the reason at-home options have grown. A trip to a casino eats a whole evening, with a babysitter to line up and a drive home to think about. A session on the couch doesn’t. You can also decide in advance that it ends at 10 p.m., which protects the sleep you need before school drop-off.
Treat it as paid entertainment, like a movie ticket or a round of golf, with a spending limit set before you log in. Betway’s promotions and welcome offers can add value, but read the small print on any bonus first. And if a session turns into another source of pressure instead of a break, it’s time to log off for a few days.

Before signing up anywhere, check that online casino play is legal where you live. Fewer than 10 states permit it, and California and Texas aren’t among them.
