Fun Summer Activities With Your Kids

School is almost over, and the kids are eagerly counting down the days until they are no longer obligated to learn anything. However, this doesn’t mean you should let them park themselves in front of the TV or their devices and let the knowledge leak out of their brains.

Kids that are bored also tend to act up a bit more, so it’s in everyone’s best interests to keep them active throughout the summer. Whether you’re on a budget, or you have enough to splurge on a treat, here are a few suggestions to help the kids enjoy their freedom.

Set Up A Tournament In The Garden

Children and adults alike can take part in the a game of badminton, soccer, or volleyball in an effort to win a trophy. Adults can play with a handicap to even the playing field for younger children, but everyone will have fun in the comfort of your backyard. Once the tournament is over, hand out trophies and celebrate with healthy snacks.

Explore The Wilderness Together

The outside world can be just as fun and stimulating as a games console. If the weather forecast looks promising, you could even take them camping for a few days and introduce them to some of the activities you did with your parents when you were their age. Brush up on some simple survival skills and teach them how to survive in the wild, pack some poles for them so they can learn fly fishing, and in the evening, show them how to make perfect s'mores over the campfire. If you only have one day, you can still take them for a walk in the nearby woods and introduce them to the simple thrill of climbing a tree.

Family Night

When no one has to get up early for school, family nights can become even more exciting. Start in the late afternoon with a pizza making station so they can help you make a delicious and healthy dinner. While the pizzas are cooking in the oven, get the youngest to pick out a movie and see how long everyone can sit still while it plays. After dinner, the fun can really begin. Make a list of family games you can play, then finish off with some hot cocoa before bed. This is also a good activity for a rainy day.

Educational Fun

School may be out for the summer, but that doesn’t mean they should stop learning. There are plenty of museums that run special activities to broaden children’s education, while letting them have fun. You could even check the websites of your local council or tourist centre (if you live in a big city) to see what events are going on each weekend. Libraries are also great sources of free entertainment. If your local library doesn’t run a story time event, or an arts and crafts day, your kids can still have fun picking out new books or learning how to use a computer. If they're a huge fan of performing arts, be sure to sign them up to the West End Stage Summer School. This will ensure their learning doesn't stop whilst school is out!
