The human body has several kinds of pains. A headache is a deadly one. Headache can affect anyone at any age since it is the most common form of pain. Sometimes, a headache is a mild one meaning no serious issue, but sometimes a headache can be severe, meaning it can have an underlying medical condition.

A Migraine is a kind of headache that can cause a severe throbbing pain inside one's head. You need to understand the reason behind such severe pain, why it's caused, and how to treat it;

Symptoms

There are multiple visible symptoms of migraine, which, if ignored, can escalate into something serious. Before a migraine occurs, your body gives you stern warning signals like change in mood, craving for different foods, frequent urination, feeling tired all the time, stiffness of the neck, among others.

Just a few minutes before migraine strikes, you can see bright spots, experience vision loss, difficulty in speaking, a sensation of pins and needles in your arms and legs, and you can also feel numb.

During migraine, you have the feeling of nausea. You feel a pulsing pain in your head. You can develop sensitivity towards the light, sound, and even touch. These are some of the experiences that your body goes through before and during the occurrence of a migraine attack.

Causes

Different people experience different migraine symptoms, and similarly, there can be numerous causes for it as well. There are factors that generally leave you more vulnerable to having a migraine attack which is as follows;

Gender; It has been observed that migraines occur more in females as compared to males. Women between the ages of 15 to 55 are more prone to this disease. This illness affects women more because of their hormonal influence.

Stress; If you have higher stress levels, then you are more likely to experience migraine attacks. Stress has the capacity to trigger migraine, which in turn can become very serious if not taken seriously.

Genetical; It has been proven that people who have relatives with mental health issues are more likely to pass on the disease to the younger generation. Similarly, around 70% of the people who get migraine headaches have a first-degree relative with the disease.

 Habits; People with unhealthy habits or eating disorders are also likely to trigger migraine attacks. Habitual smokers and drinkers have a high probability of experiencing migraine. People who do not maintain healthy eating habits also face this disease frequently.

Medication

This disease cannot be cured, but it can be managed and also improved. For people with mild to moderate migraine, over-the-counter medications prove to be quite effective. When you are at the first stage of the attack, you should take abortive headache medications, which eliminate the migraine process from proceeding further. If your migraine is recurrent and frequent, preventive medication is prescribed, which helps relieve the pain.

Conclusion

Migraine is a disease that should not be taken lightly. It can be managed if you take precautions and maintain a healthy lifestyle. But if you have a family history of migraines, then it is advisable to get yourself checked thoroughly and to get treated by a doctor at the earliest stage possible. If you take less stress, eat right and keep in mind the above points, which can help you detect migraine easily, you can eradicate this disease from your life.
